Easter

Easter has become just another day for our families. Up until about 4 years ago, my mom's side of the family would gather at my grandmother's house for a big Easter dinner, complete with multiple egg hunts. No one seems to care to get together anymore now that all of us grandchildren are grown (or teenaged). One of my cousins and I still have Easter bunny-loving kids, but they have other family to split the time with, too. So, we have all just started doing our own things on all holidays except Christmas day.

It is a little sad that we just don't have the time or inclination to be together anymore. Families used to get together often to catch up and just enjoy some quality family time together. Now it is an effort to even plan an hour's worth of dinner once a year. There are people in mine and Brian's family that my children never see, or only see once or twice a year, and it bothers me that it has become so normal for everyone involved.

This year was no different. Benji wanted to go with his friend to Six Flags and I let him. He left at 8am and I didn't see him again until around 11pm last night. He had a blast though. I fixed a Sunday dinner: Chuck roast, carrots, fresh green beans, sweet potatoes, roasted garlic.

We took my dinner over to Brian's parents' house and Lin made some macaroni & cheese and biscuits to go with the meal.

Here's Brian stealing a cookie before the rest of the food was done.

This is Motormouth Jo:

And the boys spent their time wresting in the floor while Lin and I finished the food.

We just enjoyed having dinner together and watched TV. It was nice and I hope we can do it again soon. All in all, it was a pretty good Easter this year.
