I'm calling it quits, people. I am changing my major. I have come to the realization that it is going to take far too long to finish a fine arts degree. I just can't make my schedule fit with the classes offered. Plus, I am a little more than pleased that I will not have to make 4 trips 11 miles one way across the county to attend classes this fall. Between taking the kids to school, me going to school, and regular errands, I have managed to rack up over 24,000 miles on the 2005 Kia van we purchased last February.
Wow. I'm going to save a ton on gas already.
I was considering just finishing a basic Associate of Arts degree since I am only 17 credit hours away from it, but I really want to concentrate in something. Most of the art classes that I have already taken will not count towards anything but a fine arts degree, and I am okay with that. I have managed to accumulate 43 credit hours so far, only 7 of which I am unhappy with. I made a C in Psychology last semester because I totally flaked at the end of term and just didn't do the things that I should have. I also have a B in Spanish in there that I am unhappy with. I could have made an A and still be unhappy. It was a videocourse and I just did not retain any of the language that I had hoped for. It's okay though. It still counts.
I have had a couple of suggestions to do the Culinary Arts degree since it isn't a far cry from fine arts. I like to cook, but I don't like recipes. I hate to measure and weigh things. Hate it. Measuring for the boxed brownies or cake is the extent of my measuring. I like to just grab the ingredients and just go at it. Can you guess that I am a big Rachel Ray fan? That is exactly the way I cook.
So, I will probably switch off to an Associate's degree in computer technology, specifically Information Systems and Management. Why?
1. Most of the classes that I will need to take are offered online. This will save my sanity in regards to matching work schedule with kid schedule with school schedule. Plus, have you seen the price of gas lately? *whew*
2. It is a transfer track with the University of South Carolina Upstate and I can finish up a Bachelor's degree without ever having to leave my city.
3. I really, really like computers.
4. I am pretty good at computers.
5. I really, really love working in an office. More than I ever thought that I would. I just love everything about it, even the crazy days. Actually, I probably love the crazy days more. lol
So that is my little tidbit of the day.
Maybe I will come back again tomorrow. Miracles happen you know.
